Sophisticated Fair Fashion & Jewellery

Years ago, while ‘better’ food choices started becoming increasingly popular, the stream of media reports about the miserable fast fashion situation were also increasing. That got Anne Sophie thinking. She wanted to make ‘better’ clothing choices, but ran into a problem: at the time, there were only a handful of web shops that offered fair fashion, and she rarely found an item that made her heart beat faster. When it came to style, sustainable and fair clothing had not caught up to the bigger brands. So she started an online search for the fair fashion of her dreams and became inspired.

Anne Sophie started following an evening course on Fashion & Textile, visited a number of fashion fairs, and completed a business plan. After that, she just went for it: she opened her own shop with unique, fair fashion items from London, Amsterdam, Berlin, Stockholm, Istanbul and Cape Town. She curated the most beautiful clothing items and jewellery, all produced under good working conditions and with the least negative impact on the environment. Honest + sustainable + socially engaged

Fair fashion is fashion that, in contrast to what we know from the average shopping street, is produced under good working conditions and made from sustainable materials. That makes it less harmful to the environment and increases the standard of living of the employees in this industry (which is quite necessary). Anne Sophie is strongly against sweatshops and therefore only selects fair clothing for her online shop. The employees who work for these brands do get a reasonable salary and work under safe conditions.

In addition, fair fashion is made with sustainable raw materials, such as organic cotton (no use of chemical pesticides), bamboo (requires no pesticides and little water) and Tencel/Lycocell (also biodegradable). Also, for these garments, usable materials are regularly recycled, CO2 emissions from the factories are limited or compensated, dyes that aren’t harmful to the environment are being used, and alternative energy (such as solar and wind energy) is utilized.

At Sophie Stone, you will also find fair trade jewellery brands that actively give back to society. From supporting women in difficult economic situations and offering work to artisans with physical limitations, to donating wheelchairs to children with disabilities. We applaud them!

Fair fashion is vegan fashion

Not wanting to exploit people and the earth also means not wanting to exploit animals. Therefore, most of the clothes that you’ll find at Sophie Stone are vegan. Of course, here at Shop Like You Give a Damn, you will only find the vegan items from her collection. Her vegan garments are made from sustainable, plant-based materials such as bamboo, Lenzing EcoVero, modal, Lyocell/Tencel, organic cotton, recycled polyester, organic linen and vegan sludge (triacetate).

Which certifications do ethical fashion brands carry?

Just like us, Sophie Stone curates the most beautiful clothes from the most beautiful fashion brand. These brands carry certifications from, among others, the Fair Wear Foundation, WFTO, Fair Trade, Fair Trade Certified Cotton, and the well-known Global Organic Textile Standard (perhaps better known under the abbreviation 'GOTS'). In her collection, the clothing and jewellery from the fashion brands Studio JUX, Armedangels, People Tree, Wunderwerk and A Beautiful Story carry one or more of these progressive certifications.
